The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing video review systems.
Video review technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Athletes are granted the ability to contest specific calls from the official, echoing the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move follows just a year after the All England Club rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper admitted it was a tough call for the official, but thought his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at all of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was in or out.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
